Vehicle Registration

The Department provides motor vehicle registration services throughout the Territory. All vehicles (motor vehicles, trailers and motorbikes) travelling on Northern Territory roads must be registered, roadworthy, and carry Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTPI).

Fees and Charges as at 1 July 2013

The Fees and Charges listed below are for registering a privately registered light vehicle (less than 4.5 ton GVM) and do not include other fees associated with registering a motor vehicle such as Vehicle 'roadworthy' Inspections, Transfer of Ownership and Stamp Duty.

The Fees and Charges provided are indicative examples only and are subject to change at anytime without notice. For confirmation of exact fees and charges of registration please contact the Motor Vehicle Registry on 1300 654 628.

Pre-payment of the roadworthy inspection fee is not required; the roadworthy inspection fee will be added to your registration fees at time of payment.

Defect Clearance Inspections require pre-payment and attract the relevant roadworthy inspection fee mentioned in the table above.
