NT Integrated Regional Transport Strategy - Transport for our regions
The right transport systems are vital for the economic and social development of the Territory’s regions and are a key priority in the Territory 2030 Strategic Plan. The Territory’s size, terrain, climate and demographics present many challenges when it comes to moving people and goods around.
That’s why the Territory Government commissioned the Integrated Regional Transport Strategy in 2010. The strategy looks at the unique needs and challenges for each of the Territory’s regions, and proposes practical initiatives for taking the first step towards enhancing services and improving accessibility for these areas.
The Territory Government already has a number of these initiatives underway, and is about to commence others.
This includes:
- trialing new regional bus passenger services;
- the upgrading of remote barge landings and aerodromes; and
- assisting Territory Growth Towns to identify and prioritise their passenger transport needs.
Some other initiatives are also being considered by the Northern Territory Government for future implementation.
