Project Summary

Remote and regional areas of the Northern Territory have widely dispersed populations, cover a vast geographical area and face extreme climatic conditions, providing considerable challenges for the provision of transport services to these areas.

The Integrated Regional Transport Strategy aims to overcome these challenges to provide transport connections to the remote communities with the major regional service centres. This approach is critical for the social and economic development of the Territory and will assist in the successful implementation of the Territory Government’s Growing the Territory and Working Future initiatives under the Territory 2030 program.

Government is acutely aware of the role that transport will play in the implementation of wider social, economic and environmental policies and strategies.

Part of the Integrated Regional Transport Strategy will be to deliver a 10-year service delivery model that will target the specific needs and requirements of each region in the Territory.

This will require an inclusive consultation period with stakeholders and regional representatives to identify the issues, expectations and strategies associated with each region to ensure a robust and comprehensive strategy is developed.
