Public Transport

The Territory's public transport services are managed by the Department of Lands and Planning, Public Transport Division and serviced by a range of contracted bus operators including Buslink and Darwin Bus Service (DBS).

Public Transport services have been designed to meet the needs of the general public, students, students with special needs, seniors and the mobility impaired.Free travel is available for a range of people and there is free travel for all members of the public to special events throughout each year.

Holiday Bus Services:

  • Alice Springs bus services do not operate on Sundays or public holidays.
  • Christmas Day 25 December 2011 - no bus services.
  • Christmas and New Year's holidays - 26 and 27 December 2011, 1 and 2 January 2012 - public holiday services only.

Darwin bus services, routes 1,  2,  3,  4,  8,  9,  10, 12, 14,  70,  71   72,  73 and 74 operate seven days a week including public holidays (excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday). NT Statutory Public Holidays

School Student Travel on the Mandorah Ferry

Mandorah FerryAs the 2012 school year started today, DLP and the Mandorah Ferry operator Fast Ferries would like to remind school students travelling that they are required to sit downstairs in the inside cabin, and follow all directions of the Ferry staff. Back to School - Watch Out, Slow Down

Back to School with Hector the CatChildren return to school on Tuesday 31 January 2012. Motorists are reminded to slow down, watch for children, and observe the 40 km/h zone speed limit near schools between 7am and 5pm.

Department of Lands and Planning Acting Manager of Road Safety Education, Shaan Myall, said young children are not well-equipped to handle the traffic environment and can be unpredictable and difficult to see near roads. Media Release

 

New Bus Facility for Humpty Doo

Coolalinga Park and RideA new park and ride bus facility on Challoner Circuit, Humpty Doo will open in January 2012.

The Humpty Doo Park and Ride offers rural passengers a dedicated place to park their cars or bikes and catch the bus.  Services include free parking for cars and motorbikes, drop off and pick up area, undercover seated area, public amenities, as well as a secure bicycle enclosure with lighting and cameras. New Year's Eve Starlight Special - Free Buses from 7pm to 7am

Starlight Special

The Territory Government is providing free buses for the public to safely attend New Year’s Eve celebrations. Buses will depart Darwin (Mitchell Street), Casuarina and Palmerston from 7pm on New Year's Eve until 7am on New Year's Day. Timetable information on free bus services

Standard public holiday services will also operate on New Year's Day and the New Year's Monday public holiday (normal fares apply) please see timetables for service times.

 

Christmas Express shuttle bus from Darwin CBD to your door - Who's your sober Bob?

Christmas Express

The Christmas Express shuttle bus services Darwin the northern suburbs and Palmerston from Saturday 26 November to Sunday 25 December 2011 and operates on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 1am to 5am.

The pick up location is opposite Kitty O'Sheas on Mitchell St and fare prices per person are: Darwin suburbs $5, northern suburbs $10 and Palmerston $15. A4 flyer

 

Vanderlin Drive Duplication - Temporary Bus Stops

Vanderlin Drive DuplicationTemporary bus stops will be required during the construction of the Vanderlin Drive duplication.

The temporary bus stops will be located at either end of the road works, between Patterson Street and Mueller Road Malak.

Route 301 New Service Time Commences 31 Oct 2011 in Alice Springs

Alice SpringsThe Territory Government wishes to advise Alice Springs bus passengers that on Monday 31 October 2011 a new service time for Route 301 will commence.

The new service time is 11.45am and operates from Monday to Friday, providing passengers with better access to the Hospital.

Totems - A sign of the future

Totem PoleNew totem signs are currently being installed in all major stops and Interchanges across Darwin and Palmerston and have been installed at the new Coolalinga Park and Ride. Totems are planned to be installed in Alice Springs by July 2012.

Each totem has timetable and map information relevant to it's location. The totem is an information sign that not only provides service information but is cyclone coded and meets the Disability Discrimination Act requirements.
