Easter 2007 Road Safety Campaign

Don't let our voices be the last you ever hear!

Station Officer Colin Snowden

This Easter I’d rather be playing with my kids or going fishing than cutting badly injured people out of smashed cars. But that’s what firefighters have to do way too often in the Territory.

It’s traumatic enough for us to cope with, but the victims and their families have to live with the pain and loss for the rest of their lives.

So if you care about your loved ones, just drive safely -
and always wear your seatbelt.

Getting called into work and away from my family over Easter is hard, but not as hard as telling another family that a loved one has been killed in a road crash. That’s the hardest part of a policeman’s job.

People just don’t realise the effect that a fatal crash has on families and friends. Drivers need to think about other people on the roads. One tiny mistake can change people’s lives forever.

So if you care about your loved ones, just drive safely -
and always wear your seatbelt.

Paramedic Warren Purse

This Easter I’d love a couple of days off to play with my kids. But I’m a paramedic and if there is a serious crash I can be called in to work.

Road trauma affects everyone - families, friends, people who stop to help, and people like me. Emergency Services operate 24 hours a day and I hope that one of those hours is not spent desperately trying to revive you or someone you love.

So if you care about your loved ones, just drive safely -
and always wear your seatbelt.

Easter should be a relaxing time with family and friends. I am really looking forward to some time off from the Royal Darwin Hospital Emergency Department.

For some families it’s a time of heartbreaking pain and sorrow, remembering those killed in road crashes. I see trauma teams frantically trying to save lives that have been shattered in an instant.

So if you care about your loved ones, just drive safely -
and always wear your seatbelt.
