Northern Territory Taxi Subsidy Scheme
Scheme enhancement
The Northern Territory Taxi Subsidy Scheme (NTTSS) has entered a new era with the introduction of electronic smartcards with photographic identity for members of the scheme and electronic processing of member trips in taxis.
The new system will eliminate paper vouchers by relying on technology to automatically process subsidies and payments; making the system simpler for the taxi industry and members of the scheme.
The Department of Lands and Planning has implemented these changes to ensure the Taxi Subsidy Scheme continues to meet the mobility needs of Territorians with a disability.
The old paper vouchers are being phased out and will not be accepted after 30 June 2009.
Note:
- The old paper vouchers are not to be used in conjunction with the new electronic smartcard.

Benefits
What are the benefits of the new system?
The old Taxi Subsidy Scheme system relies on a lot of paperwork which is processed by the taxi industry and us.
Under the new electronic system, information is automatically transmitted which significantly reduces administration of the scheme. This will also eliminate accidental and intentional misuse of the scheme.
Reducing administrative costs and misuse will ensure the scheme is able to continue to meet the growing needs of genuine members of the scheme.
Members of the scheme will also benefit from using one smartcard instead of paper voucher books.
