Public Transport

The Territory's public transport services are managed by the Department of Transport and serviced by a range of contracted bus operators including Buslink and Territory Transit.

Public Transport services have been designed to meet the needs of the general public, students, students with special needs, seniors and the mobility impaired.

Darwin bus services routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10,12,14, 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74 operate seven days a week including public holidays (excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday). Alice Springs bus services routes 100/101, 200/201, 300/301, 400/401 and 500 operate from Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays). NT Statutory Public Holidays

School bus changes starting Monday 9 March 2015 – Routes 59, 61 and 204

School-buses-2Parents, students and teachers are advised that changes to the following school bus services will commence on Monday 9 March.

Route 59(AM) will now depart 10 minutes later from the Casuarina Bus Interchange at 8.00am to fix a timing issue on another affected school route.

Route 61(AM) will depart 10 minutes earlier from the Casuarina Bus Interchange at 7.50am to reduce late arrivals at O’Loughlin Catholic College and Marrara Christian School.

Route 2049AM) will depart 10 minutes earlier from the corner of Stoddart and Fanning Drives at 6.50am to reduce late arrivals at Darwin High and Middle Schools.

Timetable changes to Route 1 and 1h starting Monday 2 March 2015

image, route 1, route 1h, route changesPassengers are advised that as of Monday 2 March 2015 the Route 1(a) bus service departing Casuarina Bus Interchange at 9:30pm Monday to Friday will be replaced with a Route 1h service departing the same time.

This change has been implemented in order to assist those passengers working at the hospital meet the last Route 9 and 10 services departing the Casuarina Bus Interchange and provide hospital staff living in Tiwi with access to public transport.

Timetable changes to Route 74 starting Monday 2 March 2015

Route 74 changesPassengers are advised that as of Monday 2 March 2015 the Route 74(a) departing Palmerston Bus Interchange at 12:10pm Monday to Friday will now change to depart at 3:30pm to accommodate workers from Kokoda Industries in Yarrawonga.

In addition the Route 74(a) 5:15pm service from Palmerston Bus Interchange will now depart at 5:30pm in order to allow time for passengers from the orbital services arriving at 5:15pm to connect with the Route 74.

New school bus route for Alice Springs – Monday 23 February 2015

school buses in a rowA new school bus is being introduced to the Alice Springs School Bus Network on Monday 23 February 2015. The new school bus will be providing an additional morning and afternoon school service to cater for increased school transport demand this year.

A number of changes to other school bus runs have been made to spread the extra demand between school buses. Your usual route of travel may have changed. Please check the new timetable here.

School bus changes – Monday 23 February 2015 – Route 207

school buses in a rowParents, students and teachers are advised that a change to the route of travel for School Route 207 AM and PM will commence as of Monday 23 February 2015.

The route of travel change has been made in an effort to reduce the time required to complete the service and to provide safer access to the service for Milkwood Steiner students.

School Bus Route 433 – Wet Season – Term 1, 2015 

school buses in a rowParents, students and teachers are reminded that school route 433 runs a wet season route of travel throughout all of term 1.

The service will return to the dry season route for term 2. Please see the route map and description for further information.

All other school bus routes remain unchanged for the beginning of term 1, 2015.

Christmas holiday period ticket office opening hours and bus services on Christmas Day

CasuarinaInterchangePassengers are advised that due to the Christmas and New Year holiday period the opening hours of the Casuarina, Palmerston and Darwin bus interchange ticket offices will vary.

23, 24, 29, 30 and 31 December 2014 and 2 and 5 January 2015
Casuarina Bus Interchange open 6.45am to 4.30pm
Darwin Bus Interchange (public toilets only) open 8am to 4.30pm
Palmerston Interchange open 6.45am to 4.30pm

25, 26, 27 and 28 December 2014 and 1, 3 and 4 January 2015
All ticket offices will be closed

All tickets can be purchased on board the bus using cash only.

Passengers are also reminded that there are no bus services on Christmas Day.

Let us be your Sober Bob for New Year’s Eve and catch the Darwinbus for free

fireworks2The Northern Territory Government is providing free buses for the public to safely attend New Year’s Eve celebrations. Buses will operate from 7pm on 31 December 2014 to 6.30 am 1 January 2015. Services will depart Darwin, Casuarina and Palmerston Interchanges, picking up and dropping off at all bus stops along the route. For the route map and timetables click here

More bus fare options from Monday 15 December 2014


Bus ticketing is changing to make public transport use in Darwin and Alice Springs easier and more convenient for passengers. From Monday 15 December 2014, the new ticketing system will be live on Darwinbus and ASbus services and new Tap and Ride cards and fares will be on sale.

Fares will not increase and students (and other eligible groups) will continue to travel at no cost. More fare options for concession card holders and regular passengers will be provided.

Changes to inbound Route 8, 3pm service start Monday 1 December 2014

route-8Passengers are advised that as of Monday 1 December 2014, the inbound route 8 service departing Palmerston Bus Interchange at 3pm will no longer service Kormilda College.

Passengers currently boarding the 3pm service from Kormilda College will need to walk to the bus stop outside Hidden Valley Ford on Stuart Hwy.

As a result of this change the bus will arrive earlier at the bus stops between Kormilda College and Darwin Bus Interchange. For the updated timetable click here.
