Public Transport

The Territory's public transport services are managed by the Department of Transport and serviced by a range of contracted bus operators including Buslink and Territory Transit.

Public Transport services have been designed to meet the needs of the general public, students, students with special needs, seniors and the mobility impaired.

Darwin bus services routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10,12,14, 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74 operate seven days a week including public holidays (excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday). Alice Springs bus services routes 100/101, 200/201, 300/301, 400/401 and 500 operate from Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays). NT Statutory Public Holidays

Changes to Darwinbus routes 6, 8 and 10 - Commencing Monday 11 May 2015

darwininterchange2Passengers are advised that changes to timetables for public bus routes 6, 8 and 10 will commence from Monday 11 May 2015.

The changes have been made to the route timetables to better reflect the real time running of public buses to each bus stop. Bus departure times for the routes have not changed.

In addition route 6 will no longer travel to Larrakeyah (deviation b) or Playford Street, Parap (deviation e).

Daly Street Closure - Sunday 26 April 2015

Passengers are advised that due tree removal works on Daly Street on Sunday 26 April 2015 public bus services will deviate around the work site.

Outbound Route 4 and 14 services will deviate around the work site via McLachlan and Smith Streets before continuing onto the normal route of travel. Temporary bus stops will be set up on McLachlan and Daly Streets.

Inbound Route 8 and 10 services will deviate via Cavenagh, McLachlan and Smith Streets before continuing onto the normal route of travel.

Public Transport apologises for any inconvenience caused.

ANZAC Day Parade – Saturday 25 April – Additional bus services and route deviations

anzac2Passengers are advised that due to the ANZAC Day Parade on Saturday 25 April Darwinbus services out of Darwin City and the Palmerston Bus Interchange will change.

Darwin City - Buses will not stop at the Mitchell and Cavenagh Street bus stops between 6am and 10am. The only bus stop will be the Darwin Bus Interchange.

Palmerston - Outbound buses will not stop at bus stop 339 opposite McDonalds between 6am and 11.30am. All buses will exit the interchange via Temple Terrace and continue with their normal route of travel. Inbound buses are not affected.

On Saturday, the routes 4 and 8 will run additional bus services for the public to attend the ANZAC Day memorial service at the Cenotaph, Esplanade, Darwin, Saturday 25 April 2015. Normal fares apply for all services. The additional service for Route 4 will depart Casuarina Bus Interchange at 5am and the additional bus service for the Route 8 will depart Palmerston Bus Interchange at 5.15am.


School bus changes – Monday 20 April 2015 - Routes 206(PM) and 227(PM)

route206-227Parent, teachers and students are advised that a change to routes 206(PM) and 227(PM) will commence on Monday 20 April 2015.

Routes 206(PM) and 227(PM) have been redesigned to more effectively meet travel demand and to get students to the NT Music School earlier.

Both routes have changed significantly.

Please check the attached updated maps as you may need to catch a different bus starting from Monday 20 April.

Trower Rd road works – bus stop closures

road_signPassengers are advised that the bus stops 157 and 158 on Ryland Road will close between Wednesday 22 and Friday 24 April 2015 due to the road works on Trower Road.

Passengers utilising these bus stops will need to use bus stop 156 on Robinson Road or bus stop 167 at the Rapid Creek Shops.

Public Transport apologises for any inconvenience caused by these closures.

Dick Ward and Progress Drive road works – bus stop closures

road_signPassengers are advised that that due to the resealing works on Dick Ward Drive bus stops 085 and 227 will close progressively.

Passengers utilising bus stop 085 on Dick Ward Drive will need to use bus stop 086 outside the Progress Drive Shops or bus stop 084 on Dick Ward Drive once bus stop 085 is closed.

Passengers utilising bus stop 227 on Dick Ward Drive will need to use bus stop 226 on Progress Drive or bus stop 228 on Dick Ward Drive once bus stop 227 is closed.

In addition due to the resealing works on Progress Drive, commencing April 15 2015, Route 11a services will not use the Progress Drive Shops bus stop 086.

While the works are in progress, passengers will need to use bus stop 227 on Dick Ward Drive.

Greek Easter celebrations – Friday 10 and Saturday 11 April 2015

easter-eggsPassengers are advised that due to the Greek Easter celebrations over Friday 10 and Saturday 11 April road closures and detours will be in place on Daly, Cavenagh and McMinn Sts.

Buses will still have access to the Cavenagh St bus stop and bus services will not be interrupted.

School bus changes – Monday 30 March 2015 - Routes 228(AM), 405(AM), 408(AM), 413(PM) and 417(PM)

Parent, teachers and students are advised that a change to routes 228(AM), 405(AM), 408(AM), 413(PM), 417(PM) will commence on Monday 30 March 2015.

School buses that currently turn right from Bees Creek Rd onto the Stuart Hwy will now go down Bees Creek Rd, turn left onto Gulnare Rd, left onto Stuart Hwy and continue on their normal route of travel.

The route of travel change is being introduced due to a traffic safety issue turning from Bees Creek Road onto the Stuart Highway. As a result, the arrival times may be delayed by approximately 5 minutes.

Timetable changes to Route 10 starting Sunday 29 March 2015

10_imagePassengers are advised that as of Sunday 29 March a timetable change will come into effect for Route 10.

The Sunday Route 10 bus service departing Casuarina Bus Interchange at 9:20am will depart at 9:15am as of Sunday 29 March 2015.
