General Travel Reminders
Travelling on buses in Darwin and Alice Springs
In an effort to make a safe and pleasant trip for everyone travelling on public buses, passengers are asked to be aware of the following advice:
- Please have the correct fare. Drivers do not have the ability to exchange large notes.
- Please show the appropriate valid ID card if requesting free travel or a concession fare.
- Eating and drinking (except for water in a sealable container) is prohibited on the bus. Only fully sealed drink containers will be allowed on the bus. If the container is not fully sealed, i.e. a McDonalds drink cup with a cap and/or straw, travel may be refused.
- Smoking is prohibited on the bus.
- The driver has the right to refuse any person who is:
- intoxicated;
- is likely to cause annoyance to any other passenger;
- is likely to soil or damage the bus or the clothing of any passenger; or is
- noisy, violent or disturbing the peace.
- Standing on seats is prohibited.
- A person shall not board, or alight from a bus while it is in motion.
- A person while travelling on a bus shall not play or perform upon any musical instrument, distribute handbills or advertisements or offer any article for sale.
- A passenger shall not ride on the step or a part of a bus other than that provided for the use of passengers.
- A driver may require any child who is travelling without payment of fare and is occupying a seat in the bus to surrender the seat to passengers with special needs, e.g. seniors, mobility impaired, disabled or parents carrying small children.
- A person shall not take on the bus any luggage other than articles which may conveniently be carried in the hand, and which will not, in the opinion of the driver, interfere with the comfort of other passengers.
- A person shall not bring on to a bus any animal other than a guide dog or a hearing dog.
